Best places to park in Manhattan on weekend

I'm looking to head into Manhattan in about an hour to go to the Met Museum. I'm almost definite that I won't find any parking around there so I won't even bother. I'm thinking of parking somewhere else in Manhattan, then just taking public transportation. Does anyone know a good area to look? I know that finding parking downtown in the Greenwich Village area usually isn't too bad, but I don't know where else to look.
 
Try looking on the side streets over by Third Avenue to First Avenue. Those areas usually have regular parking.
