Best places to buy furniture in LA?

My mom is flying in to LA this weekend (her first time to LA, and it will be her first time seeing the ocean once I take her to the beach) to help me furnish my apartment, which currently has nothing in it but a bed.

I need:

- couch
- tv stand
- bookshelf
- desk
- chair
- storage stuff (especially shoe racks to hang over the door)
- end table
- coffee table
- dresser

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy furniture that isn't TOO expensive, but a little better quality than IKEA? (IKEA will be the backup plan) Do you know of any areas where there are a lot of furniture stores? I heard there are a bunch on Sepulveda, but I'm not sure where... have you had any particularly good furniture-buying experiences, and if so, where? Thank you!

Wickes is probably a little better than IKEA. At least you don't have to put it together yourself.

There is a lot of ugly stuff, but you could try somewhere like Wickes. We ended up buying a coffee table and sofas there. The problem is that you should ask how quickly you can get the furniture. Some of it needs to be delivered, and you may not get it in time for the weekend.

You can buy somc cheap furniture from the stores along Valley in Alhambra/San Gaberiel area. They do carry name brands and you can haggle with them if you pay cash.

Heh... that'd be awesome, except I'd rather not sit on my floor watching TV for the next 365 days. :p

my g/f and her sister went to all hte nice furinture places, wrote down the brand and models of the stuff they liked, and went to some shady Vietnamese furniture dealers.

2 weeks later and 50% off retail price, they had their furniture!
