I'm in my late 20's and moving to Cali soon - I'd like a cool place to live that's close to the beach and nightlife and has tons of cool young people. What are my choices aside from like Newport Beach?

2500 a month allows you to live virtually anywhere.

Venice beach would probably fit what you're looking for, as well as anywhere near the schools - ucla, usc etc.

Craig's List, renting websites, it'll take you a while to search but you'll be able to find something. You said LA but mention Newport. Newport isn't super close to LA. What city you going to work in? All of LA/OC area has the night-life so don't worry about that.

I hear Venice kind of a low-income place though?

I work off a laptop - I'm just moving for the climate. What would you say are some of the best areas for me?

Southbay area is great. Redondo/Hermosa/Manhattan Beach are all nice...Manhattan Beach being the most expensive generally.

Where in Los Angeles will you be working? Newport is about an hour from downtown Los Angeles so you wouldn't want to live there and work in Downtown or on the west side...or worse, the Valley.

If you want to blow $300/night at bars, like to wear Tap-Out t-shirts, and want to bang hot chicks with tattoos...........Huntington, near main street.

I've lived in Redondo, Huntington and Newport; all about the same. There are cheaper (run down) and nicer (upscale) areas in every beach community. They all have their own local nightlife; you can't really go wrong with whatever you pick. The only real difference is the distance from downtown LA...

and long beach sucks, dont move there.

I hear MDR is mostly older people?

What's PDR?

Also.. how does Manhattan compare to Hermosa compare to Huntington?

Why don't you buy a condo or a house? You're looking to flush 2.5 grand down the toilet a month. That ain't smart.

While there are an abundance of bros wearing tap out shirts at least their not wearing sparkly diesel and douchefont shirts like you'll find downtown LA; plus the bros usually stick to BeachFront Bar, Sharky's and Hurricanes, the other 8 bars were just average guys and girls.

I used to bike to main st and get properly drunk for under $50 (~8 drinks), always a fun time.

$50 to get drunk... D:

I lived in Glendale, there weren't many young people there, but I paid about that much in rent.

Jeez, that's barely more than what I can get in rent for a half-decent 2-bed apartment in a slightly inconvenient location, well connected but still in the sticks, over here. Is $2500/mo rent a lot in the US?

2500 would be typical for a California 3 bedroom house in a nice area.

We pay about 3000 for a 4 bedroom house in San Luis Obispo - one of the higher cost of living areas in cali.

I'd prefer to rent in a location first until I get to know the area, then buy in a location that's best suited for what I need.

That's what I did, still renting, and the people that bought are regretting it.

then again my rent isn't anywhere near $2500.

This thread makes me never want to move to cali.

I have a 2 BR, 2.5 bath apt for $400. All of the local bars have dollar drink specials.

As everyone knows, there reasons why certain places to live are expensive and well some are cheap to live.
