Best place to vacation in Mexico?

Has anyone here taken a vacation to Mexico, and if so, where and how did it go? Would you recommend planning a trip there or elsewhere? (departing from LAX)
 
I've been to Puerto Vallarta. It's kind of nice, but there wasn't much to do. The flight from LAX to the airport there was horrible though. The plane shook like crazy.

I drove probably 30 minutes over the border just to see what was over there. Didn't have much fun except when I spent some time trying to haggle with the locals. But then again, it was JUST over the border.
 
I've never been to Mexico, just over the border (Tijuana) or not. Amanda, did you have the chance to do any shopping? Was there any sight-seeing? I'm wondering if it will be worth it to spend the $$$ just to go to the beach and lay out... there's a beach 10 minutes away from me that I could go to instead. Hrm.

NOT Tijuana.

Rosarito was okay, Ensenada was okay. Cacaun was the best (have to fly there though)
