Looking at selling most, if not all of my camera equipment.. I'll probably do Craigslist but I'm a little apprehensive of selling on eBay. Any camera specific sites or stores I should look into? I don't have much (D80/grip, batteries, SB800, 17-50 f/2.8 Tamron, 105mm f/2.8 Sigma, 50mm f/1.8 Nikon, tripod, monopod) but would like to get the most for it.

If this isn't the appropriate place to ask, please lock away. Thanks in advance!

Generally, it's best to post on photography specific sites like fredmiranda, potn, dyxum or even here. While you can try the CL & eBay direction, expect lowballs and people who back out easily on CL.

if you want to get the most possible for it, while avoiding places like craigslist/ebay, you should probably try a forum, like dougp indicates. places with required accounts and moderators will filter out some of the spam. while camera's aren't often sold on anandtech forums, it would be a good place to start. Just make sure you have your email listed in your user profile.

when selling camera equipment, to expedite things, be sure to have pictures of all your equipment IN FOCUS and at various angles
try to describe the equipment accurately, be sure to have pictures of the glass
include the generic no fungus, snappy oil free aperature blades, a few/no dust particles
people like to know at least roughly how many shutter actuations/pictures were taken with the camera body
with box/manuals?

KEH.com is an okay place to buy/sell, but i wouldn't expect to get the most for it at any reseller type place, because they need to make a profit, also KEH's appraisers are pretty strict on the equipment condition.

It may take longer and you might not sell for as much, but at least with craigslist you can't get scammed cause you can meet somewhere like a coffee shop. Typically the photography forums are trustworthy, but all it takes is one bad seed and you are out some nice equipment.

Quick and easy is Adorama. They'll give you a phone quote and pay for it to be shipped to them for inspection. Figure about 70% of what they'll sell it for, more like 80% if you want store credit.

Ebay - I'm not sure why you are apprehensive. I've sold tons on Ebay, and always seem to get more than I think my items are worth.

IMHO forums are good for quick sales (read not top dollar, if anything come in at fair market value and expect to be trolled). I made a lot on ebay for camera gear when I was selling off my A1 gear.

Personally eBay > Craigslist for me. The whole purpose of eBay was not doing a local sale which can cause headaches and in the case of CL and iPods and iPhones get you killed or robbed or raped all have happened here. At the dog park I frequent, some chick went to sell her iPhone/iPod and ended up raped.

Personally I tried to sell two cars on CL and got everything from spam to death threats.

My wife's 2000 Saturn SL2 I was listing at the KBB price of $2000 or so and discounted and listed exactly what was needed.

Some dude wanted it for $500, told me he was being REALLY generous. When I took the ad down (it sold for a little less because we got a sob story and the guy even brought his family to meet us), asshat called me and told me I was a dead man. I had already looked him up though and told him let's meet [in front of his apartment]. He stopped calling.

My 240SX was even worse, but I sold it for my asking price within a week of listing it on autotrader.

iirc you can sell to KEH. but to get the most money you'll want to hit up a buy/sell forum on a brand specific site, like nikonians.

i sold a rebel here for a fair amount, so you could always try our own fs/ft forum.

good pictures of the equipment really help move it.

I've always had a lot of luck with fredmiranda but the only downside is that you have to pay. I'm not sure about potn but if you want to sell it quick then eBay should be the best for you.

I'm going with KEH (haven't got around to shipping it yet). I'm sure I could have got a bit more using FS forums at various places but the convenience of sending everything at once is nice.

I've used KEH to buy and sell over the years. You may not get the better price but it is totally hassle free if you provide an accurate description of the condition of your equipment. Last year I sold $1000 worth of film equipment to them.
