Bridgestone Potenza RE-950. If you can get hold of an entertainment book there should be a coupon for 25% off at the Firestone stores. They're HR Rated and have some really great ratings on Tirerack.com. I have em on my car, and my sister has them on her car. It has a 40 or 45k treadlife warranty (depending on tire size).

Those Bridgestone tires suck. I have the Blowtenzas on my 2003 Maxima and they are the worst tire in the rain. I would recommend Michelin. Check out www.maxima.org for suggestions on tires. You will find pretty much the same reaction to the Craptenzas by the maxima.org members. Lots of complaints about hydroplaning on wet roads.

You're lucky, I have 17" tires on my car. Those are going to be pricey when I have to replace them.

Which Potenza's are on your car ?

I have the RE040 on my IS300 and they're great wet and dry.

RE-92, 225/50-17. I just read through the reviews on tirerack.com for this exact tire and almost all of them complain about the tire on wet or snowy roads.

I'm assuming those are summer tires, Why would you expect summer tires to work well in the snow ?

Summer tires = late spring, summer and early fall 😛

I'm not sure why you're not getting good traction on the wet.

Invest in a set of snow tires for your maxima, if you dont want to kill yourself with the summer tires.
I tried last winter with my RE040's and I barely made it through. Now I have a set of Blizzaks that's gonna be going on probably around thanksgiving or so.

I like our local STS Tire and Auto place. it's a franchise. the owner is very accessible, customer service is better than a Pep Boys, NTB or Sears type outlet AND they do all mechanical work.

I'd go with a place you can develop a relationship with the owner.

i don't like taking my car to places where it's just employees and there is really no one person to hold responsible. i went to pep boys a couple of times and was not happy at all.

Well no wonder you're having problems. The RE92's suck. No uni-t of any kind. What makes the 950's so great is the second generation of the UNI-T. Sticks to the road like glue even in the rain. Buying Bridgestone tires without the Uni-t is a complete waste of money.

Anyone with recommendations for a Subaru Outback Wagon? Need to be very good in the rain and in the snow. 205/70R15 is what we're looking for.

🙂

70? Truck tires?

Yeah, 205/70R15 is what came standard on the Outback. It has other sizes we could use, but I don't remember what those were. The Michelins we have right now are 205/70R15.

Edit: Going by tirerack, it looks like 215/60R16 and 205/55R16 would work as well.

You can't use 16" tires on 15" wheels.

Rear blew on the maxima this morning. All tires on it have 18k, but I changed the fronts with the back about 2k ago. The backs (what used to be the fronts) were worn, but they were not worn out. The fronts are in great shape. Hopefully the rim isn't bent at all, but mrsskoorb was driving and I wasn't there.

So, I need two new 16" tires and I'll get both rears changed at once. I have access to Big 10 tires and sears and crap like that. Which is likely to be the cheapest? I'm uninterested in buying high end tires.

Thanks, and you're just a sweetie for answering!

*EDIT* So, do I really need H rating vs the lower rated SR?

GET YOKOHAMA AVS ES100 FROM TIRE RACK!

That is all.
