The camera was bought 2 or so years ago, and about a year ago the flash popped, and it was under warranty so they replaced it free of charge, now its out of warranty and it popped again, so I need to replace it.

You guys think of any decent repair shops, this seems like a simple fix, If I can get the part, maybe I could just do it myself... Sony wants 180$, but that is more then the camera is worth now.

Any suggestions?!

Sounds like a good excuse for a new camera to me. I don't know where you'd get it fixed, but I wouldn't imagine anything under $100 - what's the part cost?

The part would just be a bulb! Id hate to have to get a new camera, love the style of this little guy.

I would love to get a Sony DSCT2/G , the same camera, but with integrated 4gb of memory, and a touchscreen, and 8.1 megapixel, etc, etc.

Cannot justify 350$ though, unless I was going to travel again soon.

We had that camera all throughout europe, with the broken bulb and it worked fine, for night shots we used her moms camera, but it was rather large compared to this smaller one.

I can't think of anywhere that would be a better deal than sending it to Sony. Maybe look up some local camera stores and ask for a quote.

Are you sure the flashtube went? They rarely do go - often a capacitor will pop though giving the illusion of it "blowing out". Sometimes it's just a flashover between two solder joints causing the snapping noise you hear. It may wipe out a triac or rectifier. In P&S these will be rather small components requiring an experienced technician to desolder, etc.

Sam has a good guide if you feel like doing it yourself. If it is the flashtube, those are easy to replace and inexpensive.

well, it was cold out when I took a picture and I heard it pop. It also smelt like burnt...so I guess it could be a soldering point. I do not have the tool for that, so ill probably just have to live with it being this way.
