Best place to get Athlon 64 X2 3800+

ZipZoomFly seems to have the cheapest price I can find from a site I recognize ($358 shipped), but eWiz has Toledo core 3800+ chips for ~$374 shipped. Has anyone ordered one from ZZF and gotten a Toledo? Do the Toldedos really OC that much better than Manchesters to warrant the extra $16?

I'd rather have retail for the heatsink. Never hurts to have backups and it's easier to sell them down the road.

EDIT: Monarch is $2 cheaper than ZZF on the retail.

Tankguys was $350 for the retail last time I looked. And great support, they even have someone on these forums.

Go with ZZF. Free 2-day shipping is always a plus.

// Also, if you're gonna be overclocking that, an aftermarket heatsink would be a wise idea. 🙂

I have a Zalman 7000A AlCu, but I want retail because I'll eventually retire it off to another box or sell it.

Well, right now monarch is $1 more than ZZF, and no free shipping. Go ZZF for $358 shipped ! actually better than Tankguys was shipped.

Ah, depended on where you lived 🙂

Of course, ZZF's price is for 2nd day air, and our sometimes lower price was for FedEx ground, so I concede it's a better deal 😱

He, I tried to give you a plug above, but it was OOS, and $16 more than the last time I looked, so I had to be honest....

But then he'd be doing business with the worst computer merchant known to man. Always a bad idea.

Monarch has been good to me, and they have a good reseller rating. Whats your problem ?

The first place I looked was TankGuys because I remembered their $350 special from about a week ago, and now that I have the cash the deal's over. 😛

I shopped at Monarch twice. The first time, they took 3 business days to just process my order. Not that big a deal. The second time, I ordered a DFI NF4 + Venice 3000+ combo when the Venice first came out, and they shipped the "pretested" bundle to me with a BIOS that didn't support Venice chips.

I know they're great to everyone else, but it seems like I've got bad luck with them.

😛

Nice guys over there.. Worth a shot if the price is close!

How are they shipping anything when they're OOS?

Hey, I appreciate it, and ZZF *does* have a better deal, nothing wrong with telling it like it is!

Yep, we're out right now. So too are all the distributors in fact! Most of them say they'll have them by September 4th so I'm not sure if they have time machines now or what

I'd say go with ZZF. Shoot, $358ish including 2nd day air... heck of a deal!

From What I read the 3800+ is the only 512k DCs that have absolutely no Toledos rebinned as one. Basically a 3800+ is so cheap that any toledo that need to be rebinned and sold as a 512k part would lose to much money as a 3880+ so it was pretty much 4200+ (or Higher) or bust for those chips.

That said has anyone here gotten a Toledo 3800+. Also I always thought the extra cache actually had a bad effect on overclocking, so the toledos would be worse, then again Toledos with half the caqche disable might actually overclock faster. hmmmm have to do some more research because this is one thing where I may be a little futher out of the loop then I would normally like to be.

Edit:

Did a Little checkup and It appears that the 3800+ appears to being produced on both the E4 and the E6 (and is the only 512k X2 part that is) and that might be the reason for getting one that reads as a Toledo, basically the E6 stepping may be an advancement and not nessisarily a sign of it being a Toledo part. This would make me also believe that their wouldn't be any difference in a E6 manchester and a half cache Toledo in terms of overclocking.

What I would love to see is a Comparison with a E6 and a E4 3800+ with their heat plate removed.

2nd Edit: Actually the chart I just saw is old. EVERY AMD CPU HAS MOVED TO A E6 STEPPING.

Please go here and chooce E6 in the stepping field .

3rd Edit: Okay final Edit: Okay I was wrong, look carefully at the E6 steppings, the one type not currently produced under the E6 stepping is the San Diego chips. This makes me wonder if the Teledos are really better overclockers. Manchesters on the E4 might be better as that is the same stepping as the San Diego's that people are getting to 3.0GHz or above.

I believe I have a Toledo core with half the cache disabled:

X2 3800+ 2.8Ghz@1.375v

Prime95 stable @ 13 Hours with a slight voltage bump to 1.4v.

Which in comparison with some of the other post I have seen they are averaging around 2.6Ghz@1.5v.

I would guess that because the surface area of the chip is bigger compared (Toledo) 199mm2 vs (Manchester) 147mm2 (35% bigger) this is allowing the CPUs heat to be dissipated more efficiently.
