Is there any hope of getting one before christmas without buying one from a scalper? at a ridiculously high price? If so, where would you suggest looking...

There are supposed to be more shipments before Christmas. Just keep checking your local stores.

Theres probably a snowballs chance in hell...

But you might be able to if you have friends or family that live out in the middle of no where with a Wal-Mart or something like that near them.

I recall when the N64 came out, I was living in FL at the time and contacted a friend that was living in North Carolina and that friend was able to find one at their local Wal-Mart, then they just shipped it to me.

there will be more shipments soon. nintendo has them made, they were just looking for a way to effectively distribute them all quickly. if you can't wait, ebay/craigslist will be your only bet.

One GameStop near me says they're expecting a shipment tomorrow, and another says they're supposed to get some for Black Friday.
Methinks anyone paying $500-800 will be kicking themselves in the arse in a few weeks.

keep thinking that and end up with nothing. Unless by "not hard" you mean "waiting in line for 12 hours" or "paying $200 over retail"

all indications seem to point to there being "plenty" by christmas. I hear there will be another shipment in some stores (target and toys r us) on Wednesday.

everyone is so negative, but Nintendo shipped more than the initial estimate for release day. that indicates good yields - unlike the P(o)S3.

the target near me had 3 left @ 10:45 (too bad there were 4 people in line when I got there to buy trash bags).
