Best place to get a Teamspeak/Ventrilo server?

I'm looking for a cheap or free solution to getting a Teamspeak or Ventrilo server going. This server will only be used by 3 or 4 people at a time.

I don't mind paying a small monthly fee for a great bandwidth solution. So, any suggestions on hosting sites for this, and which should I be looking at more, Teamspeak or Ventrilo?

Thanks.

Ventrilo is the best imo. I never liked Teamspeak.

You can run your own ventrilo with 8 people max.

otherwise I could just give you access to my 8 man server, only 3 of my buddies use it, so if we are all in it..it wont be a big deal.

I like Ventrilo better, and as Vivi said you can just run a server off your own computer, I've had my cousin run a server for a while, it's free and you can set the voice quality to max without having to pay more for it.

What is the bandwidth like, though? I have a 10Mb/1Mb connection, and this server would be used mainly during WoW gameplay.

Absolutely run it from your computer if that is all that will be using it. As long as I'm not also trying to download other files I've run as many as five peole on my computer while playing WoW without noticing any kind of slowdown.

You can have it startup as a service as well if you'd like. That way you don't ever have to turn something on/off if you don't want to.

Teamspeak absolutely sucks.

Ventrilo is 10x better.

I've had my own ventrilo server from here: http://www.darkstarllc.com/

Relatively cheap, and I think I was referred to them from these forums, I forget. Overall, very satisfied.

Hell, $1.99/month for 10 slots is worth it not having to hassle with keeping my server running at all times. Thanks for the link and "testimonial".

I checked out both darkstarlic.com and typefrag.com, and decided to go with typefrag because their site looked more professional even though their prices weren't as good as darkstarlic.com at the moment. Plus, typefrag specifically markets "high quality" voice servers and I didn't see it anywhere on darkstarlic. So I signed up for a 5-user server for $2/month, and the signup process was extremely quick using Paypal. Took less than a minute from start to finish, was immediately able to configure my server and log in. I made sure my server was using the highest quality audio possible (which surprisingly it was defaulted to), then tested it out with a buddy, and am very impressed with it. Literally took less than 5 minutes from starting the signup to talking on the server.

what makes vent that much better than TS? me and a few buddies have been using TS for years now. one of us usually runs the server on our own machine and all is well performance wise. none of us have used vent so what makes it better? sounds like it costs money and TS is free...

I love typefrag ventrilo servers, they are kickass.

Typefrag servers are very good. I was paying for a 50 slot ventrilo server from Typefrag that cost ~$150/6 months that worked well.

ventrilo

ugt-servers.com is the host I've used for years, found them to be the cheapest and virtually no problems.
