Best place to get a cheap, suitable laptop?

Which laptop retailer tends to have the best prices? I don't require a lot... a P3 700 is fine, 128MB RAM, and 10-20GB hard drive. Screen size doesn't matter too much. DVD-ROM is mandatory, though.

Thanks!

Ask around if any of your friends have hookups. Laptops are $$$$$$$$$$ unless you have hookups and/or hot deals.

Look into a Thinkpad T21 from eBay Direct for ~$1400 (incl. shipping and tax). PIII 800, 128MB RAM, 20GB HDD, swappable DVD/FDD drives, 14.1" TFT, 56K/10/100, 3 yr warranty. Comes with only Win98SE though.

My budget is around $1200 or less.

Actually I priced a Compaq Presario 700 at $1149. Not too bad...

If you want a cheap laptop then get a Compaq.

If you want a world class laptop with great build quality, reliable hardware (unlike a Hyundai car), powerful, light with one of the best reputations in the laptop industry backed by an excellent warranty then get an IBM ThinkPad T series for $1299.

Toshiba's are the best budget with a lot of features..

Compaqs are raelly expensive.. so are sony.. and Dells..

IBM would be my next choice.. after Toshiba... since Ebay seem to have em cheap..

um... Fujitsu's are nice.. and aren't too expensive either..

don't get a compaq or an hp, they aren't very good laptops, i'd go with toshiba or ibm, toshiba's are pretty cheap, look on ebay, i got my ibm x20 from pcconnection.com, it was a refurb tho, but for $700, you can't go wrong. =) good luck
