OK, so Superbiiz is an OEM processor, not a retail box and Microcenter is about 60 miles, but if I go into NYC soon I may stop there. That's a good deal.

eBay right now are either OEM or overpriced retail boxes.

Maybe a coupon will come up for Newegg soon.

Sorry, you are right. All but one(B&H). After Micro Center, that was the only other one I checked. But all the rest are retail boxes.

Thanks,

John

Follow-up.

A word of advice. You have to be really careful using Pcpartpicker

I saw the deal from Superbiiz and it sounded better than driving an hour and a half to a Microcenter. And, unlike with B&H Superbiiz said it was a RETAIL BOX. So I ordered it.
I got the confirmation and it said RETAIL BOX w/o fan.

I immediately cancelled the order which was just in time before it was too late.

Who removes a fan from a retail box and sells it without one????

Follow-up:

Called Superbiiz and asked them why the fan and heat sinks were removed from the retail boxes and they claimed that Intel was sending it to them that way lately. I'll never order from them again.

I ended up buying it from ATD Computers in NC for $229.99 shipped. They shipped it immediately and assured me the heat sink and fan were included after they physically checked the box.

Has Intel possibly begun deleting the fans on all of the unlocked processors?

I was looking for this CPU but ended up getting the i7-4790K for $265 from Jet.com. You can get close to that price now if you use the 20% coupon (max $50) for "new" ;-) users and waive the return fee. It came with a heatsink and fan.

Which reminds me, I must update my sig...

I guess I could possibly understand, with the unlocked quads and HT quads, since the stock heatsink was basically underpowered for cooling those CPUs.

But the G3258 dual-core, shipping with the copper-cored heatsink, can cool it pretty well even overclocked to 4.0-4.2 or possibly more if you aren't juicing it with voltage.

I think that it would largely destroy the value proposition of the G3258 if they stopped shipping a cooler with it, and purchasers would have to drop $30 on a 212 EVO or something equivalent. Not to mention, some people put G3258 CPUs in SFF machines, where a tower heatsink wouldn't necessarily fit.

Received my CPU retail box from ATD computers on Saturday. It was well packed, sealed, and of course contained the fan and heat sink. When I asked them about Intel shipping a retail box without a heat sink and fan, ATD computers said they too never heard of such a thing.

I would buy from them again.
