Best Place to buy AMD systems online

I have a friend that wishes to buy an AMD (Intel need not apply) based system for gaming ($1000 - $2000). Avoiding the Compaq and HP's of the world because of all the unwanted extras (AOL, etc) they load on the drives. Also do not want a proprietary one.

Suggestions?

<< Alienpc seems to have lots good reputation.
Dell, of course, one of the strongest.

I think you mean Alienware, and you can't get a good system that's cheap from them. Dell only uses Intel processors, and they have extras like AOL and Dell.net.

To answer your question, Cyberpower System builds good machines at affordable prices. Also, GamePC builds excellent machines, though you'll have to watch yourself in order to stay under $2,000.

I second Micronpc. I have their Micron Millenia MAX GS P3 733 and it's a fine machine that was top-of-the-hill when I got it. Never really had a problem with it, except my monitor died but they promptly cross-shipped me a new one and I didn't have to pay a cent for shipping charges or anything. I've had good experience with that company and I would certainly recommend them to anyone who wants an OEM computer.

One of my friends has a Micron, and it has been plagued with problems and they refused to give him an RMA.

One of my friends bought a P2 Micron machine several years ago, and it is/was one of the best machines I know of.

I second the cyberpower systems... Although I havent bought their systems recently (build my own) my components are similar to cyberpower's and they are very good components. I have bought one in the past and they are one of the few makers using AMD powered systems.

Micron seems to make pretty decent PC's. A friend of mine has a P3 based system from them. I have never heard of him complain about his box.

Check out Oxford PC. They have excellent customer service and a great selection of hardware to choose from. I just checked out cyberpower systems and their selection is ridiculously low compared to Oxford PC. Their prices are excellent too, I'd really suggest you check them out before you make your decision.

Oxford seems a bit pricey for what he wants to buy, though.

You might check out ibuypower.com. Limited choice of mobos but great prices. Thanks for the Oxford link. Great site! Cyberpower is good too, and they have the Shuttle ak31 which is a great board for the price.

You cant get a DELL with AMD, but I'll second the alienware. Although one thing to keep in mind, you can make a really good custom built comp with that much, but with an alienware in that price range you'll get what you coulda made for less then half the price.

Alienware still uses the AMD 760 chipset, because they're obviously pompous jackasses.

How do those two facts relate?

Since they're pompous jackasses, they claim to have the greatest performance while using an inferior chipset.
