best place to buy a laptop?

what's the best place to look for a laptop? I know what I want (small, light, cheap, DVD player, NIC, and that's all it needs), but I'm having trouble finding prices comparisons online. Should I give up and head to a *shudder* Best Buy or Circuit City, or is there a site where I can customize a laptop?

I know you can buy custom built Toshiba laptops at Circuit City...I would honestly recommend a D as well. :disgust:

my advice to you, DONT GET A COMPAQ! or an HP for that matter, if not just because Compaq's questionable future, but the fact that thier laptops have very crappy cooling systems! HPs dont have enough video chipset power (it uses a savage 4 based chipset).

thanks for the help, I'll take a better look at Dell, and I'm going to CC today to buy a phone, so I'll stop in there. My dad has a toshiba for work and likes it. I'm really looking for something like this sony with a NIC instead of a modem. Thanks again for the suggestions, I'll post when I get back from CC.

ebay is the best place. do your research and get if form the right people and its the best. i got my brand new HP zu1155 for $975 shipped, instead of the normal $1600 or so online. now that is a deal.
