Best place to buy a computer?

I'm looking for a cheap computer for my gf so she can do accounting work and such. She isn't the least bit interested in playing games(I know-how terrible!)and she will mainly be using financial programs, microsoft office xp, etc. I know Dell and Gateway are pretty good but are there others?

Build one. 😛

I think there are nForce(all in one) boards for like 65 bucks.

Sure you can. Are you wanting to include keyboard, mouse, speakers, and monitor?
Hmm.. you're going to have a problem when it comes to software though if she has to have Office XP. 😉

You can usually get Dell base model for less than $499 during their % off + coupon sale.
Keep checking techbargains for the deal.

I need the whole works: monitor, keyboard, mouse, Windows XP, etc. Seriously, you really can't build it for less than that price and still get software and a warranty. A decent but still crappy monitor alone will cost around $150 and she does not want any used parts.

Dell has a lot of refurbished systems for under $450. Remember these aren't always "used" usually just cancelled orders that they can't sell as new.

You sure about that?

Asus A7N266-VM - sound, video, lan - $66
AthlonXP/1800+(1.53GHz) Retail box - $56
256mb PC2100 - $38.50
WD 40gb 7200rpm 8meg cache - $66.50
Samsung 52x24x52x CDRW - $41 shipped
ProSource FullTower Case - $40(incl. shipping)
Samsung keyboard - $9 shipped
Generic optical mouse - $9.50
AOC 17" monitor - $109 free shipping
Aopen 2.1 speakers - $20
---

$419.

😛 All from newegg.

Shrug. The savings may not be worth the trouble. Plus, you would have to "aquire" all the software.

Walmart has a Compaq Presario.. XP/2400+, 128mb ram, 40gb hdd, monitor.. for 498 + 46$ shipping = $543..

The built computer would be better though.

If you can wait a week or two, Dell should have another Hot Deal like this:

Dimension 2400 desktop w/ P4-2.2GHz, 128MB DDR, 40GB, free DVD or 48x CDRW upgrade, NIC, XP Home for $479 - $50 instant discount - $100 rebate = $329 w/ free shipping.

That's pretty damn loaded for only $329 with FREE SHIPPING.

Add a 17" CRT monitor for around $60.

So yes it CAN be done, just have to wait for the right deals and know when to pull the trigger.
