Best place (price) to buy OCZ 520w PSU

Title says it all, building out my first computer and have decided on the OCZ 520 PSU, best price I can find is HERE. Does anyone know of a better price? I'm not familar with this company, any one have any dealing with them, good or bad?

THANKS

I don't think any system will utilize a 520 w psu to it's potential. Why not save some bucks and purchase a Fortron or Antec power supply? As for your question, I don't have any experience buying stuff from hardcorecooling, but HERE is a link to the reseller ratings.

If you want/need that much power, HERE is a link to a Fortron psu at a great price... ~$76.

thegi mp03,

Thanks for the response. Like I mentioned, this is my first build so I am open to sugestions. After reviewing alot of posts on this board and others, I realize there are better PSU's in the $200 dollar range but too much for me. From what I have read, the OCZ 520 seems like a nice unit, did I miss something withthis PSU?

As, for the 520W, I'm sure its more than I need, here is a quick look at what I plan on putting togeter:

A64 wichester core 3500+ ,939,90nm
OCZ Value - 1 gig
Raptor 78gig-for OS, WD SATA 250 for storage
ASUS "A8V Deluxe" VIA K8T800, Ver 2
?? 6600gt AGP - still undecided
DVD burner
samsung 191T
cd drive
Misc fans,etc
Antec p160W

PSU:??

Dont really plan on OC'ing - new to me , but you never know.

Would I be better off with an OCZ 420 or 470, I'd know I can get these for under 100, but figured the extra 20-30 might be worth it for future (see video card upgrade in the future, more RAM etc).

Welcome any suggestions

Just get the 420 the 420 has been known to make it to 500 without a hitch. If you are worried about the future, then get the 520 but the 420 is very powerful. That Antec P160 is powering that system??? No way, the video card and processor alone could eat that up.

Think I had that right - the Antec P160w is the case.

Figured I'd get a good (now and future PSU) in case (lol) i upgrade the MOB/CPU, VC in the future, and I like the OCZ 5 year warranty.

Think I wait a week now that the OCZ 600 is out, maybe the price will drop a little on the 520.

OCZ PowerFlex? individually adjustable power rails with LED indicators.
OCZ ConnectAll? universal connector. (ATX, BTX, SATA, P4 and EPS12V)
OCZ PowerShield? power leads.
5 year warranty backed by OCZ?s exclusive PowerSwap? replacement program.* No more endless return-for-repair loops!

That is an awesome feature set, the +12v of 33A ensures you don't have to worry about enough juice anytime soon, and connectall feature ensure compatability in the future with just about any of the boards you might pick and the warranty will ensure you can still use it 🙂 I would definitley buy it, but the place you linked is OOS on it, they don't list the shipping charge, and their 6 month reseller rating is lower than I will except. Get it
here for $135 and as low as $4 ground or $11 2 day air 😉 I wouldn't expect the price to drop anytime soon just because a new model came out either.

Pick up the OCZ 470. It has the same +12v rail which is the most important. Adjustable pots are great. 🙂 I got mine from Monarch Computers.

i would go with a Fortron 530W PSU (link provided by thegimp03). it can take everything you throw at it and more - it is powering the rig that i have in my sig, which thanks to the TEC and my willingness to put high voltage through both the video card (with a voltmod) and the processor (2.15 when 1.65 is default on desktop version), draws more power than your proposed system.
also, i would go with an nForce3 (or if you feel like waiting a bit and going with PCIe nForce4) board instead of a Via based board. the 6600gt PCIe is both cheaper and a bit faster than the AGP if you feel like going with it.

Thanks for the reply, I have been reading the other posts about the upcoming release of the PCIe
nForce4 boards. Is this, A8N-SLI Deluxe, the type of board you are refering to. I think I may just wait and see.

No real hurry here, have only purchased the case and raptor so far, PSU and memory should be tomorrow. Still debating on the 3200+ or the 3500+, seems everyone feels the jump up to the 3500+ is not worth the extra money. I dont plan on OC'ng so I thought I'd just start a little higher with the 3500+,--Comments on this???

MDE,
Thanks for the info, I was just figuring on going with a power supply I can grow into and I like the 5 year warranty on the OCZ. I figure I may upgrade some of the items over the next few years, but with the 520, the PSU should last me till I need a 1000w (lol).

To be ready for a possible future upgrade to dual-core cpu's, go with the 520Watt OCZ.
Not to mention (possibly, 600+Watts): dual-core AND dual-cpu (essentially quad-cpu's), with SLI video.

I got my OCZ 520w from monarchcomputers for $125 plus shipping ..I opted for 2 day fedex for $12+

but they do not seem to have it now....

Thanks,
I've called a few places, seems alot of people are currently out of stock on this item.

Mind is made up and will keep searching for one.

Another vote for the Fortron 530W. Get it and use the money you saved on more ram/or better video card.
