For peanuts try networking. Chances are you know someone who works in a business that receives lots more shipments than they send and are therefore awash in peanuts.

Yeah, use that the first couple of times, & then just keep reusing all the crap that gets sent back your way. Double box if you want to feel more secure.

One thing about newspaper, it may be used for dunnage but you have to be careful about the ink transferring to the product inside. And also be aware that paper doesn't hold it's shape as well as when you put it in since the paper is so thin.

Will crumpled newspaper protect electronic goods well? Will that packing be suffucient incase of a insurance claim for damaged goods?

I have 4 trash bags full of peanuts and plenty of bubble wrap. You pay shipping and they're yours.

What exactly are you trying to ship and to where? If you're that concerned about it, do it right. Go to any Home Depot, Officemax, Mailboxes Etc, and buy a roll of small bubble. You can also use the small bubble as dunnage.

Need to ship some stereo speakers tomorrow. I have a Mail Boxes Etc here close but absolutely hate paying prices for their goods and services. They're small, so I shouldn't need too much, but it seems I'm always needing packing materials and want to make sure they're safe.

Then I would highly suggest not using newspaper then. As suggested by someone else, Uline is great for small volumes of packing materials and since they have warehouses nationwide you'll have a high chance of getting it soon. If you ship often then buy a roll of kraft paper as well. However, since you need to ship soon, a UPS Store or and officemax or officedepot should suffice. Just purchase the supplies and not pay for any of their services. If you're truly in a pinch, newspaper should work. You'll just need quite a bit of it. Maybe this is too technical and unnecessary but better safe than sorry.
