Best Place for Temp Sensor for CPU

I just got a multi-sensor display for temperature, voltage, fan-speed - I was wondering where the best place I should put the sensor to monitor the CPU temperature. I imagine sticking it between the heatsink and chip would not be best. Where is the best place?

Also, I have about 8 sensors, anything else I might want to monitor?

is the thermal sensor the flat flexible kind or just a regular resistor? If it is the flat flexible kind (like the one that comes with a TT smartfan II) I taped mine on the side of the bottom copper slab of my AX7 and it seems to run fine.

It is the flat flexible kind.

The manual warned against putting it between the chip and the heatsink, since it might affect the heat transfer.

If you buy the new TT Volcano 11 it comes with a wire attached to the inside of the heatsink from what it looks like in the pics. If you attached to that connector then thats the best option.
