What's the best place for some free Texas Hold'em tournaments? I dont like playing for real money online... If you know any local games in Chicago or Palatine, IL let me know =)

In my experience, free games play out a lot more differently than games that are only $10 buy-in. When it's free, people are more prone to stupid things, like calling on an all-in, pre flop, when they only have a 2 and 7 in their hand, hoping for a good flop.

I agreed! Even if the buy in is $1 the game play is totally different than free game where people go all in every hand.

I think he is talking about reallife (not online) places to play but yeah, I play tournaments on PokerStars all the time. I have won millions in playmoney.

I'm looking to play for real money live, & looking for free tournaments online.

Pokerstars has a bunch of free tournaments for real money, but I don't see the point. There's like 10000 people playing them, all for a chance at a freeroll 100$ at the end, first place gets like 15$ while it takes 4-5 hours to get a 0.25$ payout. The play is also extremely awful, with almost all the players sitting out after 5 min while you steal 10/20 blinds all games. There's no risk, so not much strategy.

There's no value at all to playing them.

I can't speak for Chicago specifically, but I see signs up all the time around Milwaukee, and Minneapolis. Just call a few local bars, you're bound to find plenty of games.

Not sure what the laws are in Illinois, but in Wisconsin, bar tournaments can't require a buy-in, and the prizes can't be cash either. I was actually reading an article the other day that they technically can't even offer prizes to the winners, but they all do anyway.
