I cannot recommend any books but here are a couple of links to websites with tutorials and info on various Photoshop books.

Go to Amazon.com and read the user reviews for two or three books, and pay attention to comments like "the XXX book is much better than this one" and to why they like or dislike a book.

And/or go to your local B&N and glance at a few yourself.
