To Hugekebab,

Sadly there is a lot to know about inkjet printers before you can make an informed choice. And as you correctly point out, that advice is location specific. Since I am on the wrong side of the pond to give advice on the market in England---I will recommmend you put yourself in the hands of a fellow countryman---a poster that goes by the name of websnail.

Just google the "nifty stuff forums" or "steves digicams."---just google the name without the quotes.
Then search for websnail or other posters from the UK---you can them PM them.

But since photoprinting requires very high ink consumtion, the cost of ink becomes critical. Before the advent of the latest chipped Canons---the overwelming choice of photoprinters worldwide was Canon photoprinters using the non-chipped BCI-3&6 cartridge line. I do know that Canon UK does still sell some of those refurbished with full factory warranty---if you could find a ip4000 or ip5000 for that money, grab it no questions asked.
