Best photo management website/software?

So, believe it or not I just got my (first!) digital camera. I'm now looking for a website that will preferably:

-- Allow me to easily upload both publicly-accessible and non-publicly accessible pics
-- Allow for easy annotation and organization of pictures
-- Have the option to purchase prints (or have the ability to purchase prints easily from another site)
-- Be free.

So what do ya think? Thanks!

Flickr is pretty solid. I also like the Google one (I think it's Picasa?).

Easiest, not necessarily best, but really good is picasa. you have to sign up for the google empire though.

Both sites will lower the resolution of your picture to save space on there servers. Flickr keeps them at 1024 * xxx, where as google will let you download a 1600X1200 copy. Flickr also limits your upload to 100mb per month, where google just gives you a flat limit of 1GB.

IMO, flickr is a better "social" photo site, so I'd say use both, lol.

I am working on some pics to print and using ShutterFly (based on some reports that they are really good at printing.) They have a share feature that allows you to select prints and then send an email with the share catalog. I am using them for the printing and have my own website "for sharing".

the $25/yr for flickr is well worth it I think. It can also double as an "oh shit, I just lost alll my photos" backup. But yeah, it sorta sucks for traditional sharing, very social oriented

I did a free trial for smugmug, I was really impressed.

Currently I use flickr though. Maybe I'll switch over to smugmug once I run out of space on flickr.

they are targeted to two different audiences IMO. But if you like smugmug, check out zenfolio too. I'm not too keen on how they both present images, it feels clunky to me. However, if I wanted to sell photos, they have the ground work laid out very nicely.
