There are so many photo hosting sites- from freebies like photobucket to pay services like smugmug and photo print services like shutterfly.

What is the best service, overall, and why? And secondly, what is the best free service (including free hosting print sites) and why?

I've been using shutterfly and think its ok, but then I found picasaweb and like that better and figured there must be even better ones i dont know about.

As far as free goes, I really like picasaweb. It's easy to use and even easier to upload pics. Only downfall is you can't hotlink on forums with it.

Hotlink? You mean embedding a picture or do you just mean a hyperlink? Guess i'm confused, sorry.

Yeah, I like picasaweb quite a bit as well. I wish they'd imbed some sort of printing site on the pages though (as opposed to having to use picasa itself). Something like Adoramapix would be great.

For pay sites I think that pbase and smugmug are probably the best.

I use PicasaWeb for my galleries and it works great. I works directly through Google's Picasa application, and people can download your galleries (if you want them to) directly in to Picasa. Pretty sweet.

And you can link directly to pictures.
