Best performing all seasons?

Picking up some new all-seasons today, normally I'd buy some summer tires this time of year and they'd last me until mid-fall, but this year I'm going to be gone from mid-June to mid-August so I don't think it's worth it.

245/45-18 is the OEM size all the way around. Price isn't a terribly big issue as long as they are not ridiculously over priced compared to other similar tires. No run flats. The stock tires on the car almost lasted me nearly 22,000 miles which was nice, I'm sure I'll have to sacrifice some though.

I'm willing to sacrifice cold/wet weather for outright grip, but not as much as a summer tire would require. Anybody have a favorite set?

Falken Fk452 are pretty good. That's what I use when I need a cheap all round street tire.

Everybody seems to love the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. I haven't used them personally, but they will probably be my next set of tires in a few weeks.

friend of mine just got these on his rsx. they're way, way better than the potenza g019's i have on my Si.

fwiw, summer tires only really sacrifice cold/snow grip. some have excellent wet performance as well. i know i'm going back to summers after this set is done

All seasons? Michelins have a good lineup for all seasons Pilot A/S. Kinda expensive though.

My wife's car has Pirelli P6 tires...in general I would not recomend them. They are not horrible...just could be a lot better. I'm likely going to invest in some Michelin's or Continental's next time around.

I think it's a tie between the Michellin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Positions. The Pole Positions is a newer line so I went with it (in 235/50/R17) love them so far
Have Michelin Xi2s in 215/55/R17 wrapped on painted wheels for the salty midwest winters.

Anyone care to explain the treadlife warranty on the continentals? 50k miles is a lot for a tire like this. I'm assuming the chances of actually getting any warranty refund from them is zilch on a sports car, anyone have any experience with this?

not sure, my potenzas have a 50k warranty as well, and have plenty of tread left after 17k miles.

I imagine it would be difficult to prove tire failure was the result of a manufacturing defect vs. a road hazard.

As you can tell from the variety of responses, take your pick. As long as the wet performance meets your needs, the dry performance won't vary much between models. You'll get some variance in sidewall stiffness and road noise based on the tread pattern, but otherwise just flip a coin.

Sumitomo's are cheap and perform comparably based on what I've read, but I would double check wet performance. I've had a set of them on my 97 wagon for years (it hasn't been driven much for the past while) and I have no complaints. Reasonably quiet, smooth ride, decent dry performance, good wet performance. Cheap too!!

I haven't pushed them too hard since they are only 200 miles on break in. In the Wet and Dry excellent and they are quiet when driving, only thing that annoys me are the soft sidewalls, but just something to get used too, I got the DWS for Wet Traction and Long Tread life.

So I can live with the softer sidewalls, overall a great tire.

Conti's Warranty covers EVEN ware on the tires and you need proof of rotations every 6-8k miles.

I haven't pushed them too hard since they are only 200 miles on break in. In the Wet and Dry excellent and they are quiet when driving, only thing that annoys me are the soft sidewalls, but just something to get used too, I got the DWS for Wet Traction and Long Tread life.

So I can live with the softer sidewalls, overall a great tire.

200 miles is plenty of time to burn off anything left over the tread from the molding process. Bend those bitches over the pavement!

Not worried about snow, but cold weather. The DW is listed as a summer tire and usually the tread compound on summer tires doesn't work well when it is cold out.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus - These are going to last me 45,000 miles or more (they are warranteed 45,000 treadwear). Cost me over a $1K total though.

My next set are going to be Continental XC DWSes, they'll save me close to $400.

given my experience with michelin pe2s in the winter, they handled the dry winter ok, but the wear caused on them was insane. my tires lasted 10k miles through a pittsburgh winter. those were 240 treadware so the continentals may not be as bad...
