Okay, here is the deal. I am about to build a computer for a friend and since I have been out of the harware scene for some time (few months) I would like your opinion on these devices. Probably looking for an IDE setup, but may go SCSI. I would especially like to know what the best IDE CD Rom would be. Thanks!

 
i wouldn't even consider a cd-rom w/ dvd roms being so cheap...

unless u want the ultimate kenwood trueX speeds...which i doubt.

often the 12X hitachi/samsung/etc. drives are teh best value...the best performing and looking are the slot load pioneers...and the newest toshibas...

cdrw generally perform pretty close in most circumstance that u'd actually care about....the lite-on's are probably the best value...others are the 20x acer and ricoh mp7200a
