What is the best PCI video card for around $100 (U.S.)??? The card is for a friend who mainly wants to play Medal of Honor Allied Assault, and his voodoo2 just chokes on the game then coughs it back up in the form of error messages.

are there any Geforce2 DDR PCI cards, or any DDR cards for that matter around $100..?

Was leaning toward the Radeon 7000 DDR PCI but just learned that it wasn't a wise purchase... any other suggestions??

<< Do ANY of the Voodoo cards come in DDR? >>

Nope.

<< Is the Voodoo5 better than the Elsa Geforce2 GTS 32mb DDR. >>

Lets put it this way. A V5 PCI will out perform any GF2/Radeon PCI card. Will a V5 PCI outperform an AGP GF2 GTS? Nope

What motherboard/cpu does your friend have? Even really old Pentium II motherboards have AGP... if his system is older than a P2.... then not even a Voodoo5 will help.

I think a Pentium III or Duron should be the minimum for Medal of Honor

I've been talking to him online, and it sounds like that unfortunately, he is victim to the Intel chipset known as 810:disgust::| (ie it has no AGP controller)

It's a P3 550mhz in a Dell that's only a year and a half old.. We were quite surprised to see that our beloved Gf2 Ti450 didn't fit in there. Another friend of mine is happily playing Medal of Honor on a 500mhz/ TNT 8mb / 512mb ram system.

Pricewatch shows prices of $95 and up. You might be able to pick one up from eGay for cheap.

My friend bought a Dell P3 800Mhz last summer for a great deal. It was this little piece of crap machine really. No AGP slot, only one bay for an expansion. It had this really small case. I didn't like it at all cept it was faster than my machine. The video was built in AGP(I think it showed up as an Intel that used shared memory). It would be a good machine to surf the web on or do some word processing, but not a gaming rig.

Is your friend's Dell a very thin case with a HUGE power supply right in the middle of it? has a little latch on the back for easy opening the case...

You can't go wrong with an ATI Radeon PCI. A PCI Geforce2MX card would be significantly slower but still WAY better than i810 video. :D
The Voodoo5 PCI is the fastest of the bunch, but because of 3dfx's defunct state (out of business, if you didn't know) you may be out of luck when it comes to the latest-and-greatest games.

If you're like me and play games a few years old the most, a Voodoo5 would be just fine. :) It's a long card though, make sure there's room for it - it's about 9-10 inches long!
The safest bet would be a Radeon PCI though... bear that in mind.
