Best PCI video card available?

Looking to toss one in my work machine (no AGP)...
Whats out there?

Regular PCI or PCI-Express video card? Could be regular PCI there are a few oldie motherboards floating around that still support them (i.e my server) hehe

The Radeon 9000 makes a good PCI video card, but I think the best that you're going to find is a GeForce FX 5700 PCI.

I researched it rather thuroughly a while back, and ended up doing nothing on it, but I was going to get a Radeon 9000. Be careful, as many of them are AGP models that are still being sold as backstock. The 128mb version performs slightly better than the 64mb version, but not by much. If you get the 5700, go for 128mb.

thanks for the quick responses guys... I think I may actually just get a 5200 from newegg for $68. WOuld be more than enouhg for hr or so at lunch. NOt looking to play D3 or anything just some old, solid 3D games.

The FX5200 is a really crappy card. Get the Radeon 9000 or the 5700LE for the best performance you can get with PCI.

I got a 9200 PCI and it works nicely. And the red PCB is just a bonus. 0_o

Get the 5700, it's easily the best of the lot. Definately worth a $30 premium.

Normally, I might agree with you. If he was looking for a PCI card for his only rig and he was not going to be upgrading to an AGP or PCI-E system for a year or more, then I would suggest getting the best PCI card he could afford. If, however, he is looking for a PCI card for only occasional light gaming, then spending nearly $100 is a waste, IMO. The 5200 PCI would be more than enough for his purposes.

how is the 5600 256meg version? It's about $40 more than the 5700fx - think it's worth it?
