a 6600 would be great. i am not sure if an x700 is better than the 6600 non gt, but i think they are both decent.

Are you building from scratch? Is it possible to scrimp elsewhere to get the 6600GT?

uhm, yeah it's pretty much from scratch. I think he's getting a barebones system that needs a video card, optical drive and hard drive

You should check your friend's system, he could be over paying something that he could bring down in price to put into a 6600GT.

PC n00bs tend to pay for overpriced stuff quite often.

case, A64 3200+ and nForce4 motherboard don't really get much cheaper than what he's paying

Has he already bought the 3200? A 3000 and 6600gt is much better than a 3200 and 6600. Get a 3000 if he has not already bought the 3200.
