My bro has a compaq celeron 2.6 and 512mb ram. He doesnt have a agp slot and really doesnt want to put a lot of money in so i wanted to know what video card would be able to run AOE3 (age of empire 3) at decent settings or low settings would good fps.

Best cards you can get in PCI (this is asked fairly frequently; please search for more details):

RADEON 8500/9100 (NOTE: the 9000/9200 are MUCH slower than the 8500/9100). These cards are out of production and VERY hard to find.

GeForce 5700(LE).

GeForce 6200.

None of them will be "good" by modern GPU standards. They're not going to run AOE3 with all the graphics details cranked up, that's for sure.

A PCI Geforce 6200 is your best bet, but it's going to be severely crippled by the PCI interface. You're looking at medium detail and low res.

horrible card. slower than a 9200, more liek a 9200se and that's bad since a 9200 si basicalyl a crippled 8500le which is a crippled 8500 which was no perfromance king in it's time(a few years ago). a 6200 pci si a good bet, but impossible to find. i'd say the 5700le is your best bet.

Really now? Cringe at the fact that I played doom 3 on a pci geforce 4mx 420 sdr on pci with a 1ghz celeron with 256 mb ram and a 300w psu.. muahahah
Of course it was more like fpm than fps...

I agree, new mbs for agp slots can be pretty cheap.

I doubt a new mobo would even fit in that compaq case. I bet the ATX connector on the PSU wouldnt even plug into a normal AGP mobo.

Micro ATX case,, and the connector will definitly fit,, and you won't need a power supply,, Make sure u have a 12 volt line though cuz i know some really old psus don't have it.. it's the 4 pin SQUARE one.
