Best PC Speakers for <$100

I searched through general hardware and ATOT, and none of the posts really answered my query well enough so here goes 🙂

My KOSS 2 speaker set is starting to fade, so I'm looking to replace it with a shiny new speaker set. My budget is up to $100, so far I've considered...

Creative Inspire 5.1 5300 (Bestbuy, $70 after rebate)
Logitech Z540
Altec 2100 2.1

Any opinions between these three or any other suggestions up to $100 are very welcome.

I have an SBLive Value sound card, or I could use the sound built into my motherboard, an Intel D845EBT. Which would be preferrable for sound quality?

Thanks guys!

I'd got with the Live and the Logitech... those Creatives are not very inspiring at all... and although I'm an Altec Lansing fanboy... and as cool as those satellites look... something just feels empty... oh and they tip over backward easily. 😉

You can get the z540's at compusa right now for $99 and they throw in a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. That would be my recommendation. It'll sound a lot better then the live card or onboard sound.

If you can save up $36 more you can get the z560's from Newegg.

I would get these Altec Lansings. They use the same satellites and similar sub as their top of the line 4.1 setup, which competes very well with the Logitech Z560's and Klipsch's 4.1 system. They can be found at Mwave.com for about $100, with prolly $15-20 for shipping. They are a little above your $100 limit but I think it would be well worth it.

Spend a bit more and get the Logitech z560's and a Turtle Beach card. You'll be glad you did. I know I am 🙂

Well, as long as we are on the topic of the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz..I say you should get one🙂

But, for a speaker recommendation..I'm gonna lean towards the..hmm..well, its a toss up between the Altecs and the Logitechs for me (as I do not care much if i have 5.1 sound) But, I suppose more speakers must be better..so Logitech it is🙂
