It's not like I've played many racing games, but I think NFS: Porsche Unleashed is excellent.

I have played quite a few, and IMO NFSU is one of the very best. The graphics and physics engine are state of the art, and the progressive storylines in the history and test driver modes is innovative and fun.

Depends on what kind of racing you want. You can always play GT or GT2 on your PC in high res with an emulator like ePSXe. My favorites are Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed and Colin McRae Rally 2.0 if you need to go flying through the dirt and snow like a maniac, I know I do. Oh, and racing with the keyboard sucks, and a wheel can be expensive. I use my PSX Dual Shock with a USB adapter, play all my racers just like GT2. Good racing!

Best actual racing sims with actual race cars and good phsyics...good graphics/sound also... Grand Prix Legends, Nascar 2002, F1 2001, Nascar 4 and Grand Prix 4. They're all atual racecar racing games. For road cars I'd agree NFS5 PU is pretty good. I prefer Grand Prix Legends and Nascar 2002 most tho as they have the highest learing curve and a great online following with racing leagues and addon support. When ya got a game where ya have to use a wheel to be competitive you know you've got something good usually.

it's an RC racing game, but with the right videocards and whatnot, it's an awesome game to play multiplayer or single player.

NFS 5 is one of my favorite racing games for the PC. I wonder if they will ever come out with NFS 6?

Wow, I never thought about playing GT2 with an emulator. But that epsxe, it talks about a BIOS? And connecting it to computer with a game shark (don't have one)? Is that only way you can use it? Cause I'm not gonna buy that crap just to play GT2...

I think the next NFS game is NFS: Hot Pursuit 2. I've heard Fall 02, but I'm not sure, and it'd probably be later than that. But should be cool. And I agree with what you say about wanting to race something else.

yeah I like NFS PU, i just beat it again actaully, but i have a craving to race BMW M3's and NSX's and things like that, which is why i also don't play nascar games. I have played SPorts GT and while it has a huge selection of cars like BMW M3's and M5's and what not, the graphics are poor and the gameplay ain't so hot.

Ballistics Isnt your typical racing game but thats what I like about it. Its definatley a cool concept racing game. Check it out!

i would definitely rank NFSU as one of the best road racing games. I generally prefer road racing than course racing games since I like the oncoming traffic avoidance stuff too. The Nascar games are fun, but playing against the computer gets kinda boring. I tend to only play those games if i'm playing against a friend. Otherwise, I would rather play something like NFS. I'm definitely waiting on NFS: HP2 to come out soon. I've been waiting for that ever since I finished Porsche Unleashed a few years ago.

I have to agree on NFS PU. It's great and I have still many hours ahead of me.
Racing games should be played with a wheel and the graphics cranked up to maximum.
Sports Car GT is also fun.

I've also got Sports Car GT which has AMAZING graphics- I highly recommend it. Second only to Gran Turismo 3 for visua quality, IMO. There's only a few cars you can race, and a handful of tracks, but it's still pretty incredible. That's $5 shipped too.
