All that you listed are decent for a gamepad. Sports hands down are the best for gamepad/controllers though. Couldn't imagine using anything else.
For racing, I have a wheel as well as a 360 controller but its nice to use the controller when I don't feel like lugging out my wheel and pedals. Plus in most games I can do better with the controller but prolly cause I'm not that good with the wheel. That reminds me, I need to setup separate profiles on all my racers and configure the settings and sensitivity perfect to each one then time trial myself. And for arcade racers like Burnout, the newer NFS games, Trackmania, etc, a gamepad is a lot better IMO. No point getting fancy with a wheel when the retarded game is arcadey as hell.
Adventure games I like the controller. Well I guess action adventure are more controller suited (anything more combat heavy). Could you imagine playing Xmen legends, God of War, or Ninja Gaiden (yes I know only one is for PC) with a kb+mouse?? But if you mean games like Grim Fandago adventure, well hell yeah kb+mouse is way more suited.
Sorry I don't have any specifics... the majority of PC game ports that should have good gamepad support (i.e. San Andreas) usually skimp on it so it doesn't work well, such as when you cant set it up like you play it on a console.
One thing you can do is use something like Pinnacle Game Profiler or ControlMK to emulate kb+mouse commands with a gamepad. So you could use the gamepad for pretty much any game. There are plenty of profiles to use it on FPS games if that's your thing. But I haven't bothered to try that yet...
