Hey guys. You've heard this before. What are the best parts to meet my needs at my budget?

I am in need of upgrading:
Case
Motherboard
CPU
RAM
CPU Cooler

All for this budget: 400 bucks.

I'm kinda strapped for cash at the moment, and my computer is seriously lacking of late. I know that you guys know your stuff and are able to keep up with the latest and greatest, so your input is definitely appreciated.

Thanks much!

search "budget" for at least 5 threads in the last couple of weeks. Search is your bestest buddy!

with only 400 dollars, those ecs/tbred frys combos are your friend. 69-99 for decent 2000+-2400+ combo.

rest you gotta find hotdeals for. 400 is kinda slim. the cases i'd suggest would cost you 100 alone:p but cases are investments.

if your budget is really only 400, your almost better off getting a prebuilt:p

i honestly would skimp on the case as much as possible and get the 8rda+ which is a quality nforce2 board rather than getting a POS ECS board

If you plan to OC, I don't think that HSF setup is going to be tough enuf. Also, buy the AS III locally, save a couple bux on shipping. I like Shady's plan better than yours...yours is good, his is better.

if you have a local pc shop it saves on the shipping big time. like that 80mm fan, you can get an led one at svc in san jose for like 1.99 most of the time.

I have an SK6+ it is easily moddable to fit a 80 mm fan just turn it 45 degrees... I also run a XP1700 @ 2267mhz 181 X 12.5 on an Asus A7N8X deluxe. As we speek. my temps are socket = 36C case 32C idle. Full Load is ussually about socket 45 C and case about 35 C I don't think that is inadiquate at all fior OCing I could go Much Highier but my RAM is limiting me. As for ASIII www.SVC.com ussualy has it with free shipping if ising USPS. instead of another 5 bucks for just thermal paste. Also SVC.com You can get a much better cooling solution as a whole. from newegg u are spending atleast 30 bucks on a HSF while at SVC u can GET a MUCH better deal or atleast better cooling than what u are planning on getting for 30.

thats if you want to overclock. otherwise a 2400+ with ecs at frys for 99 would be better. 1gb 2x512mb of ddr for 120~ total and you'd still probably ocme out ahead:)

there would be no point in buying a 1700+ if you arent gonna OC, a 1700+ @ 1.47 Ghz (or whatever it's at) isnt gonna last you too long

i would sacrifice the ram and get 512 and a better mobo instead of the craptacular ECS board

The 1700+ was meant to be overclocked, yes.

Not sure about that ECS motherboard. They aren't exactly famous for their quality product.

I'll try to put together a setup for your guys' approval from newegg once again.

Here we go. Upped the CPU power and got the cooling from SVC instead.

Case: Antec Solution Series SLK3700AMB w/ 350w SmartPower Antec PSU :: 64.99 + 15.00 S&H (newegg)
Motherboard: Epox 8RDA+ :: 83.00 (newegg)
CPU: AMD XP Barton 2500 :: 87.00 (newegg)
Memory: 2x 256mb Corsair XMS PC3200 DDRAM :: 118.00 (newegg)
Cooling: Thermalright SK6+ Copper Base Heatsink :: 9.99 (SVC)
YS-Tech 70x15 36CFM fan :: 9.99 (SVC)
ArcticSilver III :: 4.99 (SVC)

Total: 397.95 + Whatever SVC charges for their shipping.

Any better?

Oh, by the way, does anyone know if an SK-6 will even fit on this motherboard? It says socket A/370, but I've heard of people putting them on socket 462 processors. Confirm?

Thanks y'all!
