I'm about to build a new hot box. T-Bird 1200@???, with a huge 90gb Raid0 array out of two IBM 75gxp 45's. 640mg ram (it so CHEAP now at Crucial).
I plan to do a dual boot system, Win2k and Win98se.
I'm trying to figure out how to do the partions. Oh, the huge size is partly cause I just got some great deals on the two IBM's, and also for video editing. I want to have so much room I'll NEVER run tight.
I expect to do everything in Win2k expect games. Not even sure about games, we'll see. (I may end up not bothering to install most stuff into Win98se.)
How's this:
C: 2 gigs - Win98se system files only. FAT32 C:\windows the only root file.
D: Quantum 30 gig Ghost backup disk. (I think this will force itself as D, at least under win98se, because its a 2nd physical disk array). FAT32
E: 3 gigs - Win2k system files only D:\windows(or whatever) only root file NTSF
F: 1.5 gig - swap disk fixed partition for both operating systems FAT32
G: almost all program files . 10 gigs to start NTSF
H: all data files except games - gosh, down to a mere 73.5 gigs!!! :Q NTSF
I: win 98 readable programs and data files FAT32
I think the whole business in fat32, except maybe for the Win2k stuff. Although isn't it's native format a bit slower for tracking reasons -- which may not make too much sense for a home user? Actually I'm not sure about this. If I'm going to be living in Win2k except for games, maybe I should make the whole data area and program area w2k format, except for another partion for games and any other programs which I think I may want to access from win98se.
This stuff does get complicated. Well, that's why I'm posting for advice from those who have been there.
Oh, something else. How do I deal with the 64gig limitation in FDISK when I first set this thing up? I've got Partition Magic.
