I am going to be buidling a new system with a P4 2.4 gig proc. I wanna get the 9700 with it but I don't know whats the most reliable motherboard out there right now with 8x agp support. I was thinking of an intel chipset but can't seem to find one, the onyl one i found was the Asus P4S8X Gold Version SiS 648 P4 @ googlegear.com. I am kind of skeptical about SiS chipsets so is there any Intel or VIA chipset with agp 8x support?

wait for the SIS 655 (I think that is the dual DDR one) or GraiteBay

SIS is very good on Intel's side of things. VIA and others are crap for P4 systems. Plus AGP8x is NOT that much faster than 4X hell...4x is not much faster than 2x but that doesn't stop marketing from making it seem so.

The P4S8X motherboard is a very good motherboard and the SIS chipset has proven to be more reliable in the recent past. That is probably the best motherboard with an 8x AGP slot on it. Here check out this site, they are selling it for cheaper. Asus P4S8X

The 8x slot is much faster than the 4x slot but you won't really notice the difference because thats not where it bottlenecks. By the time they clear the bottleneck up, you will probably want to upgrade anyways.

If you do not mind going with a 4x AGP slot check out the P4PE

Don't concern yourself with 8x vs 4x. There's really no measurable difference.

Focus on the other (much more important) features of the board when making your choice.
