Best P&S for harsh conditions?

My sister-in-law is in the Army and heading over to Iraq early next year. She's been wanting a digital camera. My wife and I are going to get her one for Christmas. Any suggestions on P&S digital cameras that would survive 9 months in the desert?

I'm guessing they're all built about the same. Seems like Canon has the best bang for the buck in the P&S market right now.

I'd look at the waterproof/shockproof cameras as the waterproofing seals work well as dust seals to keep grime and the likes out of moving parts... See the recent discussion on here about the Pentax Optio series and Olympus Stylus waterproof line...

We pretty much decided on the W30.

I think the W30 is the updated version of the W10. Looks like a better bang for the buck over the Olympus.
