Best overall RAM LL & OC

My Ballistix are starting to grow a bit long in the tooth...

What would you consider the best 1 GB RAM sticks at no more than 2.8v (I don't like to go higher than that for 24/7 operation). My primary concern is latency, maintaining very low latency throughout the frequency ranges, and being able to run at least at 250MHz (DDR 500) at 2-2-2-8 1T.

I don't want to spend an excessive amount, but price is second to performance here. This is for the rig in my sig. I also want to bump up to 2 GB RAM. Any high performance suggestions welcome. 🙂

That could be tough. I think you're lucky if you can get 1GB sticks at 2-2-2 at DDR400 from what I've seen.

Try Mushkin Redline if you are willing to up the ante on the voltage a tad bit. The OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 is nice as well. It's rated at DDR400, but I've seen people push DDR560 with 2-3-2-5 timings.

The Mushkins are ok, but not rated for higher then 400 MHz. So I question 24/7 stability at high speeds.

So now I'm looking at OCZ's website, and they have a million different choices. 😕

Anyway, I was eying this, Or this. I'm seeing some nice choices, but they all seem to be 2x512 MB. I won't run 4 sticks of RAM to get 2 GB, because I'll have to drop to 2T.

I'm willing to settle for a little looser timings to be able to run 2 GB, and 1T.

Any other suggestions? 🙂

Rise is right. There is no such animal. The best you'll be able to do is 2.5 3 3 8 at 250 and that's if you're lucky using either the Ballistic Crucial at $380 or the Mushkin Blue's. At 200, you can add Patriot at $235 at Monarch or OCZ Platinum 3200.

And has been mentioned OCZ is supposedly coming out with 2.5 3 3 8 DDR 500 in a 2gb dual channel kit.

Everything I've seen says that 1GB sticks just won't overclock, regardless of how much you relax their timings.

So it would seem that Crucial has the current best 2x 1GB solution here. They don't specify 2T, or 1T. I know that at 250 MHz, it's difficult for me to maintain 1T now. So I imagine it would be 2T on those.

well, its not 24/7 but i'm finishing up my 24 hour prime run for the dfi.street database-
250x11 2.5-3-3-8 and i fully intend to use this as my 24/7. like most 1 gig sticks i've seen volts don't really help much. i did a .03v bump on the way from ddr400 to ddr500

Get yourself 4 matching sticks of 32MB 60ns EDO RAM. Populate all 4 SIMM slots and watch that baby fly! Heck you might be able to boost that bad lil P233 up another 33 MHz! Wholy Boyz!.... Can't imagine what Win98 would feel like with that kinda horsepower behind it.

perhaps the best 1 gig sticks database as far as us users are concerned.

i think that ocz and mushkin both use the same chips. i know the ocz titanium and mushkin do anyway, same with the patriot.

i think it would be a toss up between the mushkin and ocz if you don't want to spend the $$ on the ballistix.
