We have a entertainment center that will allow the following TVs to fit...right now a sony CRT HD 34 inch TV is in there.

Any owners please care to comment?

I have a Regza 32" LCD also in my apartment where I work. What I am looking for is great quality of picture with no crap..like Green Push, banding, tearing or pixelation.

You gurus who have any of these TVs please chime in....esp with games, movies etc.

thanks

sorry Mr. McThizzle. It is more than likely going downstairs as the secondary TV. I assume you are referring to the Sony 34 inch CRT HD.

I got the 46 inch Sharp Aquos for $1671.99 when Compusa had it on sale. I had Sears price match it. Great set. I got the 46D62U HDMI version 1.2.

But you can now get the 46D64U for about the same price now, and it adds an extra HDMI and PC jack and it's HDMI 1.3. I think It's a slimmer unit than mine, too, like 25%.

I spent a LOT of time comparing brands/models/features and just felt the Sharp had the best picture, and the best customer support.

I'm a big fan of the Panasonic Plasma's. The 77u is great if glare is an issue. The PZ77u is the 1080p version, and can be had for close to the price you listed if you check of FW or SD.

Good luck!

I'll go with the standard movies = Plasma; games = LCD...but I don't completely subscribe to that.

I would recommend the plasmas. that Panasonic is quite popular. I have the earlier Samsung model and am quite happy with it. I can say that the blacks on my Samsung are a bit iffy in SD, but all of those problems have been solved since going Blu Ray/HDDVD.

CC or BB have (I believe) that Panasonic for $900 on Black Friday. check those forums.

I found that some people I asked to look at Plasma and LCD prefer the brightness of the LCD. The screen has an overall brighter picture while a plasma is darker (better for blacks). My dad for instance thinks that LCD is easier on the eyes.

*shrug* I guess you gotta look at both.

I prefer LCD's because plasma's can have a lot of glare if you have windows in the room.

Just a note, if you don't check the black friday thread, the Sharp 46" Aquos is $1300 at circuit city on black friday.

edit* after rereading your post, I guess the 46" probably won't fit...

Also, I wonder how quickly those TVs will sell out. Not to mention waiting in line 6 hours to get in the door. Is it REALLY worth the hassle?

42" is petite 'nuff so nix the 40" Sammy LCD. $1620 is way out of line for the Sharp LCD so nix that if you can't actually get it closer to $1000 which it has been on offer for recently. I wouldn't go plasma for console/PC, nor if lighting conditions are prohibitive of a glass screen but if primarily for movies sure and if for SD as well then the lower res models won't hurt and I'd prolly opt Panny over Sammy. The price range and specs are all over ze place though. Will the heat of a plasma be a problem if jammed into said entertainment center?

Out of those 4 I would probably go with either the samsung LCD or the panny plasma. I know you could get the 1080p panny 42" plasma for under a grand this past weekend with the $60 and $150 sears discounts. I know you can currently get that sammy LCD for $1300 on amazon w/ free shipping and probably no tax (depending on state). I don't know much about the sammy plasma... but I would stick to pio or panny for plasmas in general. I just ordered 2 Samsung 4065F's (same as the 4061F but with the clear display and 10 bit processing - wont be using them in rooms with a lot of light) from amazon for $1399... That was my choice in the 40-42" department... but I was really close to pulling the trigger on the panny plasma at sears (the 1080p version).

I'd go with the Panasonic plasma. Someone else mentioned the 77U version with the excellent anti-glare coating, but I think it's wider than the 75U so you should check to make sure it fits. Both the 75U and 77U are $1100 at Sears.com right now, and they have a deal, which ends on Saturday, that gives you $150 off if you buy it with a Sears card. The $150 off is instant in store and a MIR online. I'm not sure what the in-store prices would be. If you do order it online, fatwallet.com has 5% cash back right now, so that would be about an additional $55 off. That would be $895 plus tax after the MIR and cash back.

Thanks..any other difference than the antiglare coating?

The sharp aquos looks good also... 42" is 39.5 wide. Just worry about the banding issue, but many are saying they do not have it in the new one. I am wondering, since CC is going to have the 46" for 1299, if they would give a good deal on the 42"

I think the only difference other than the anti-glare coating is that the speakers are mounted on the side instead of on the bottom. This results in a couple more inches of width, 44.5 inches to be exact. The 75U, just like most/all new plasmas, still has an anti-reflective coating. This will make it deal much better with glare and reflections than a standard CRT screen would.
