I just inherited this old timer from a friend at work. It has Win2k and Office 2k on it now and runs kinda slow but okay. PII-400 CPU, 128MB RAM with 64MB hardwired in and 1 SODIMM slot with another 64MB of Toshiba PC??? RAM. It maxes out at 192MB. Has a 6 gig HDD and DVD-ROM. It plays DVDs but drops a lot of frames, which is not surprising given the whopping 2.5MB (that's TWO POINT FIVE, not 25!) in the Trident Cyber9525 video card.

Foolish me, I decided to upgrade a bit by way of the AT FS/FT forum. The following is on the way ($87 shipped for all):

128MB of PC133 RAM to max out the system
a 10/100 NIC PCMCIA card
Hitachi 30GB HDD

Still need a working battery though. Once all is installed, would I get better performance if I junk the Win2k in favor of Win98 or 98lite? Would it handle XP or XPlite or is that a lost cause? And here's a REALLY DUMB question -- the FS/FT forum had some laptop video cards for sale. No way is this video card upgradeable, right?

Yes, I know this could go in the OS forum and I'll probably post it there too, but I thought someone here might know from a hardware standpoint what MS OS might be the best bet.

Appreciation and props hereby given for all help!
