Lindows. It combines the intuitiveness of windows with the speed and stability of linux.

How large is the hard drive?
Install several operating systems and see which one performs better for you over time.

Recently bought a copy of XP Pro for my new tbed system, bought another a week later for my sons. Your machine will handle this fine and you will love it, been extremely stable, only reason they have been turned off is to install new hardware/software, never freezes, everything is truly plug and play for me so far, plugged in my webcam, picked it up, turned it on, digital camera, plugged it in, prompts you to copy, clears the memory card too if you want. It had ALL the drivers for my hardware correctly installed from the start. It's alot of $ but its well worth it in my opinion.
