Best OS for just web and watching movies on a USB flash drive?

I'd like to use Windows 7 but i'm afraid it'll be too big to put onto a USB flash drive, I'm planning on getting a 16gb USB Flash drive.

I'll just be using the internet and watching movies/tv show files. No game playing, or anything too intensive.

Is the Google Chrome OS available for use or is it still in beta? There are so many versions of Linux as well, maybe Ubuntu?

Ubuntu is an obvious choice. It is easy to get to work, and can fit on a 8 GB drive. I even think a 4 GB drive is enough.
And it is free, so give it a try.

I second the Ubuntu idea. It'll fit on a 4gb drive as long as you don't plan on storing media on the same drive. There's lighter alternatives, but you might have to do more running getting codecs and stuff for it.

Windows OS' working after install do not work of Flash Drives, or any external USB connected Drive.
