best os for a laptop w/ minimum specs

my sister gave me her laptop to "fix it up" and I was wondering if I should move to a different os. Right now she has win95 on it, I was thinking of installing 2k but then I would most likely have to update the ram (maybe?) So what os do you think is appropriate? (Linux is out of the question since she will be using it).

dell inspiron 3200
p2 -266mhz
96 mb ram

I also checked dell site and only saw drivers for 95 (will this be a problem if I install a new os)

Win98se would be good on there
Has most drivers for these systems already onboard
WinME would also work but I really hate that OS

My fathers compaq armada 266 laptop had more ram though (160MB) so I installed W2K... works very well indeed but only when there is so much RAM... wouldn't want to try it with less.

Could you post a list of all the hardware in the laptop? I might be able to give some insight on this subject. I run win2k pro on my desktop system. But use win98se on my laptop computer. Since my laptop is only a k6-2 400mhz with 32mb ram. But I will soon get another 128mb for my laptop since it will only cost me like $25 dollars. I'm also thinking on installing win2k on my laptop but just not sure if there are drivers for the hardware.
