My friend and I both have eee netbooks with 1GB RAM. We don't really do anything that needs a lot of power on them, but we both like a few Facebook games like Farmtown and Mafia Wars.

I know I should just get more memory, but it's a pretty old computer and I feel silly spending any money on it, and I would feel bad spending money to play Facebook games better.

The games keep getting expanded and they act a lot slower than they used to. I was running XP on mine, and it used to be pretty fast using Chrome. Now it really slows down in Mafia Wars and kinda makes it unplayable. I put Windows 7 on it, but that didn't really change anything. I installed a few different Linux versions. I really like EasyPeasy. Browsing around is a lot more responsive. But the Flash games are really laggy. When I drag the mouse around the screen in Farm Town, it lags so much that it takes several seconds for the selection box to catch up to where I am pointing. I tried Firefox and Chromeum, and they're both pretty bad. I think Chromeum is a little more laggy.

I don't really feel like putting MacOS on my machine. I tried MeeGo, but my wireless didn't work, and I read that even if I fix it manually the driver doesn't really work that well.

The flash games act like they don't have enough memory in XP and Windows 7, but in Linux they act like the flash implementation is slow. Is there anything I can do to speed things up? I'm assuming the Linux speed is the fault of Flash and there's nothing I can do, but maybe I'm totally wrong. Maybe there's a not-so-legit Windows ISO that has stuff stripped out of it to save memory?

Flash sucks in Linux. I don't know about Apple, but I suspect the Windows implementation is the best of the bunch. It probably isn't the ram as much as the cpu speed. I don't know there's much you can do about it.

Most web browsing and socializing can be done easily in Linux, but a lot of flash stuff just plain doesnt work. Even with the multitude of browsers available and all the custom packages, Windows is still easier.

I recommend Win XP because its relatively efficient compared to Windows 7 and does everything you need.

Try www.Haiku-os.org.

Great light weight web os right now. Works on the eeepc and there are threads on the eeepc forums about it.Currently its also 100% malware proof something desperately needed on facebook.

If you want to play games on haiku you'll need to install the Bezilla browser and gnash plugin.

audio is fiarly annoying Shows how well it runs on low end hardware though.

Are you suggesting that Haiku Alpha has better Flash support than Linux?

its roughly equal becuase the gnash port is also the same gnash support as the linux gnash version. I think its due to be updated fiarly soon again. As for official support from Adobe, none to speak of. But gnash is fiarly capable and if you use the r1a2 release you should be good to go. I wouldn't use any of the current nightlys something got broken with the media handler and its currently under repiar. they did improve media playback and codec coverage however.

Its worth a try if your looking for a light wieght OS. Worst that happens is that you don't like it. If you have any specific question just hit me on PM and I will help ya on the walk through.
