Best options for desktop server to run Wordpress (ie Wamp equivalent)?

I'm looking to install Wordpress on a Mac for local testing and tweaking of a site before making live changes, but am only familiar with pc options, such as Wamp. What do people use/recommend on Macs (free is preferred but not required)?

Build in web hosting should handle PHP ok. But why not just get a RasPi? Or do you mean to host it on your dev machine?

Hosting it the old fashioned way.

MAMP is a thing.

Personally, I'd install Linux/LAMP in a VM and do that instead. But I'm like that. Most web servers will be linux - better to develop on the platform that will be running your product rather than hoping a cross-platform tool ALWAYS works as advertised. (They do... usually.)
