You name it. Everyone seems to recommend the MX700, but it's wireless, and I dont know if I trust that. I have a wireless mouse downstairs that I cant stand. It's a cheap Chieftec wireless keyboard/ball mouse combo though.

I remember lots of people raving about the Logitech dual optical mouse several months ago, but now I'm not finding any threads about that. I want accuracy. I dont care if it's cordless or not. I keep a neat desk and cords dont bother me.

EDIT: I e-mailed a guy who's selling modded Logitech mice with blue LED's on eBay and told him I was considering modding my mouse and wanted to how the different LED color affected performance. He told me it works great, so I bought a 2600mcd, 3.7V, 5mm Blue LED from RadioShack for $3.99. After about 30-40 minutes of opening my Logitech iFeel, desoldering the old LED, then soldering the new one in and reassembling the mouse, I plugged it in. It's amazing! It feels like a completely different mouse! For some reason, this LED made the mouse focus better and perform more accuratelly. It feels faster simply moving the mouse pointer around on the screen, and it seems like I can move the mouse quicker. Not only that, but I can now get it to focus on my hand or finger perfectly and move the pointer with ease. I couldn't do that before. My initial motives were:

1) I have a black, aluminum Chieftec server tower with a side panel window and a blue cold cathode, and I have a set of Logitech Z340's with a bright blue power LED. I thought they'd match a lot better if I had a blue LED in my mouse.

2) I was curious if it would even work since Logitech, Microsoft, and other companies are only selling optical mice with red LED's.

the MX500 is the corded version of the MX700...I am like you, I prefer the cords, and if it's wireless, what's to say it cant be interfered with? so I purchased the MX500, it's on it's way now from Newegg :D and now with this new rebate...YEEHAW, the best mouse on the market, for $26! (it's $36 at newegg)

the MX700 is better than you think...wire is no good after using Mx700. I thought wireless was crap until this one!

"Best" is going to depend on the user. I didnt like the way the MX felt in my hand, wasnt comfortable to my grip. I opted for Intellimouse 3.0 (corded). Dunno, cords never bothered me...I have a 19 inch monitor and I still gotta sit in front of the PC anyway. Not like I can use the cordless mouse while I'm making dinner or anything :)~

MX300 if you prefer a low-key, amidextrous design. Same optical engine as it's bigger brothers, too, at a MUCH more attractive price.

Try going to an electronics or computer store like Best Buy or something, and physically try all the mouses that have been recommended here. Some shapes you may not like, so it wouldn't do to get those even if others think it's the mouse of all mouses.

I'm using a Logitech Dual Optical right now. I like it a lot, and don't think I could be more satisfied with a mouse. I've tried the MX500/700, and the MX300, and the MS Wheel Mouse Optical, and the MS Intellimouse Explorer, but I think I prefer this one. It's hard to tell though because for a lot of the above mentioned mouses, I didn't try them for a long period of time (ie a week).

I wouldn't trade my Logitech optical mouse in for anything and I'll never use a wired mouse or keyboard again :) Over the last 3 years I have used about 3 different Logitech mice and they all have been great. They are not perfect I will say, you do need to keep the receiver away from your other computer equipment otherwise you will get a little interference in the form of a slow reacting mouse, but moving the receiver over a little solves the problem.

Screw optical: go with the marble mouse. ;)

Anyway, the MX500 is a great corded mouse, but I too have played with the MX700 and I couldn't believe how responsive it actually was. IF I were to ever go away from my trackball mouse, the MX700 would be my choice.

I like my IBM Optical Navigator. It's so comfy and has a mouth-watering blue led under the scroll wheel.

I always liked the MS IntelliMouse Explorer. I just brought the Bluetooth one (works with my Powerbook), should've actually waited and picked up the new IntelliMouse Explorer Wireless. . . looks pretty cool.

But yeah, I heard the MX700 is a really good mouse. (Heard the Bluetooth version should be out by the end of the year.)

Ive got the Mx 700/keyboard combo and it's one of the best investments I've ever made. The only downside is that the Mx 700 is a bit heavy, but as long as you got a good mousepad you won't notice it.

Just thought I'd chip in since I have both the MX700 and MS Optical Intellimouse on my two rigs...

Gerbil333, you said you want accuracy, but for what purpose are you requiring that accuracy? I can tell that the MX700 is generally more accurate than the Intellimouse. If you are worried about interference, well... I have experienced absolutely no interference at all with my MX700, and the receiver/recharge bay sits pretty close to my speakers and lcd. I personally really like my MX700.

However, that said, I have the MX700 in my room's computer where I mainly do work and maybe play a couple of RPGs on. I have the intellimouse on my gaming rig because I prefer that it is lighter in weight for FPSs. But again, it also depends on how you play your FPSs, particularly with mouse sensitivity and whether you do what I do, which is lift the mouse up a bit (not too much, of course :) ). The latter is pretty much why I use the intellimouse, and it's accurate enough not feel like a hinderance.

I recently helped a friend put together a computer (his first PC!!!), and since he's a gamer, I got him to play a few games on both my computers to see if he likes the MX700. He prefers the intellimouse for gaming, but more because of the shape of the mouse, so I couldn't recommend him the MX500. :p I would recommend that you consider how you use your mouse to play games (if you do), and also go the store and try out the mice with regards to how snugly if fits into your hand. And make sure you ask the store person whether you can refund the mouse just in case. ;) Hope that helps.

I have an Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 on my other computer. It feels cheap to me, and I don't like how it plays in games. By accuracy I meant something along these lines: You can only move a mouse so fast before it cant follow your hand's motion. My Logitech iFeel and Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 are much more accurate than an older Intellimouse Explorer 1.0 I have on my downstairs computer...that's one of the original optical mice, and it doesn't keep up with fast movement too well.

I am using the MX500 mouse and it works great for me. However, I haven't tried any of the other optical mice. Picked it up from Amazon last month with the rebate. I too did not want to deal with the cordless/recharging thing.
Just my personal preference to use a corded mouse.
