Best optical drive?

My friend is building a new computer and basically since I never pay attention to optical drives, I'm just here to ask which is the best out right now for the best price.

I know back when I built this machine, the NEC ND-3540A was pretty good, but I'm sure that's been phased out by now, right?

BenQ 1640 is better than the 3540.

1655 is the same as the 1640 with lightscribe.
