Best open source knowledge base software?

Looking for something I can create for personal / public use so it doesn't need to be super Enterprise ready.

Something that could maybe take DOCX files and import them along with pictures would be cool.

I've been toying with doing the same thing too. I have lot of reference info spread all over that I need to organize it better. I'm probably going to look into Media Wiki (same software Wikipedia uses).

Not sure if you can just copy and paste stuff from Word or other office programs though, you probably have to format it yourself, but I could be wrong, did not play with it yet.

MediaWiki apparently supports directly pasting in from word. Third party utilities are also available.

You do need your own web server for this though. (It can be running on your computer, but you still need to know a little about setting them up.)

If you want it publicly accessible, you'll probably want to contract with a web host rather than hosting it yourself.

Thanks, MediaWiki might work out.

I know how to set it all up on a public site, I have one running at home and utilize Office 365 DNS for it 🙂

For this I might use AWS.

I'll try MediaWiki.
