I think it would be interesting to seem some statistics on how many online petitions actually made a difference.

online petitions are like nipples on men, they serve no real purpose but feel good anyway.

What do you really expect to accomplish with an on-line petition?

It's not very likely that the Immigration folks are gonna see it and suddenly let your girlfriend/fiancee immigrate here.

Just wait your turn.

What reasons have they given for denying her entry?

I'm one of the people who think our standards for immigration need to be increased, not relaxed, that it should be HARDER to come here, not easier.

What does she have to offer the US? Why is it beneficial to this country for her to immigrate here?

I'm not anti-immigration, I just think we need to be pickier about who we let in, with stricter controls and tighter criteria.

We NEED educated, hard working people, and they should be granted entry...if they pass all the background checks and there are jobs going unfilled.

HOWEVER, in the current economy, with companies laying off by the thousands, we have less of a need for tech workers. Hire Americans first.

We don't need more un-educated laborers. Mexico provides a surplus of those.

I had my turn, asshole. This isn't an issue about cutting in line.

I AGREE. Thats why I think its poor that Consulate Officers have full unregulated "discretion" to make any decision they want under the guise of 221g status, just to create more work for the VSC and USCIS. The USCIS already approved my petition.

Then what's the issue keeping her out? (you may have posted this in a different thread...I don't remember...nor try to remember what's posted here)

There must be a good reason for the consulate to deny her...even if it's only that you forgot to include a nice sum of cash to "grease the way."

Online petitions mean jack squat. Why? Because zero effort goes into them.

1. Find a petition site via google - 5 seconds
2. Write up the petition - 10 minutes
3. Write up a "please sign my petition" forum post/email - 1 minute
4. Copy/paste to several forums and send out to your email address book - 2 minutes

That's a maximum of maybe 15 minutes of work. I put that much time into the last thing I flushed down the toilet.

Furthermore, "signing" an online petition can be done in a second and is often done without thought. These "internet people" are virtually impossible to track down and probably won't remember or care about the petition when asked about it later.

If you really want to do something about this, then write up your petition in a spreadsheet, make columns for name, phone number, and email address, and hit the pavement. 1000 real hand written signatures by real people on the street actually means something.

Unfortunately, most online petition sites that I have come across aren't that reputable. They are too easy to ignore, as well, so they don't really get much done. Letter writing and phone calls (tons, en masse) are better bets.

I want to start an online petition, but I don't know which site to use.

Another perfectly reasonable question butchered by virtually everyone who responded to this topic. So its three years later and I google online petition and this link shows up near the top of google.

Nice job answering a simple question. NOT.

The internet is LITTERED with stupid, pointless responses that most of the time are about dismissing the question rather than simply answering it.

Anybody with a brain AND some knowledge care to actually contribute new info three years later as CLEARLY online petitions can make a difference.

and yes, getting people on the street to sign a petition can be useful as well.
Except nowadays a person could be accused of phishing for personal information, no?

I found out that Change dot org encourages people to ask their facebook friends if they want to sign the same petition. However, Change dot org spams the request onto the person's wall, which I find outrageous.

I called them out on it, but they never actually said they would stop doing it, so I stopped referring petitions I agreed with to any of my facebook friends and am looking for a new petition site.

And you had to bump a three year old necro thread to post your irrelevant reply? 🙄
