Best of the affordable polo shirts?

I love wearing polo style shirts but find a noticeable drop off in quality from the cheap stuff to the expensive stuff. I couldn't care less about brand names but for some reason the ralph lauren and Calvin Klein ones feel stronger and fit much better, though they cost over $50 a pop. I've bought sub-$20 ones by club room, alfani, and other companies and noticed that they fit kinda sloppy (sag and such) and are very thin. Any good yet affordable companies left to try? I know that RL makes a line that cost $30 but they're pretty poorly made.

i have some polos by Express/Structure, Tommy, Bugle Boy, RL, and a handful of others...All of them hold up with no problem, but paying $50 for a RL is outrageous.

-=bmacd=-

Yeah, I agree - paying $50+ IS crazy. I just get them as gifts and never buy them (I buy the crappy ones and wear them most of the time even though I hate how they fit). Any other suggestions? I have a few made by Gap and actually like them, though they have a tendency to kinda shred after a while (the knitting comes loose). They can be had for $20 when on clearance but they're kinda disposeable.

I concur on the BR or the Gap - especially if you get them at their outlets. I just recently bought one from the Gap outlet - I don't think I've ever had a shirt fit as well on my frame as that shirt does. The material is decent-good

A lot of department stores have the brighter 'spring' color RL Polo's on sale right now for around $30. I have yet to find any polo shirts that come anywhere near the quality of the cut or feel of the RL's and I'm willing to pay extra for it.

Then again, can you really consider buying something that fits better and feels better as paying 'extra'? It's an apples and oranges comparison really.

I love those polo shirts from burberry, but about $120+ 🙁
I got one from jcrew during a crazy sale, it was about 3 bucks. nice quality

I understand that with RL you're paying for the quality. I agree that they're better but I'm not very fashionable and I'm not very rich. I do wear the real deal RL stuff for special occassions and such but I wear polo shirts nearly every day.

Also, how to the Tommy H. shirts fit? I've seen "hip hop" kids wear them and they look way too baggy and silly - do they buy sizes that are way too big for them or is that just how they're cut? I'm not using "they" as a euphamism for a certain race - I've seen silly kids of all races look like tools. 🙂

I'm wearing a RL Polo right now.

I picked up 2 from Old Navy ($10 each) last week. We'll see how long those hold up.

I can't wear Tommy for that exact reason. I don't care if the fit is perfect and the feel is the best ever I wouldn't be caught dead in one due to the stigma.

Express has a number of nice spring, light colored polos for <$30. In fact, I'm wearing a red/white striped one right now. Nice cut, with an elastic fit to keep from wearing too baggy.

Spend the money and buy a Lacoste polo. They are great, and will last years if you take care of them. If you really don't want to spend the money, go to TJ Maxx and get a RL for $30. The quality is better than many others, especially at that price.

I just wish they would get rid of that logo or have an option of with/without.

BTW, I like the Lacoste shirts but I can't find them anywhere.

Another nod for Lacoste. They are slightly more expensive but worth it. If you have an outlet nearby, you can get one for under $50.

For cheaper ones, try Kohl's. I think their Craft & Barrow line is pretty good.

Exactly. Go to TJ Maxx or Marshalls. They have the same stuff that's being sold for way more in the department stores marked down quite a bit. You can even get them cheaper than $30.00 if it's on clearance or they are having a sale or something.
