Its just my personal opinion but Quake 4 and Prey arent that great. MUCH better than Doom 3 but that isnt saying much.
Lots of people like them.

A BUNCH of folks have been pissing and moaning about Battlefield 2142. Apparently its even more bug-ridden than the other games and not even as much fun.

I think that Neverwinter Nights 2 and Oblivion are perfect examples of the industry dumbing down quality RPG's to mak them more interesting to the average American consumer (who gets dumber every year).
Both games were huge dissapointments but I did manage to play them for a little while.
You might actually have a little fun with them but I cant make promises. They are both still very expensive and maybe you should wait until they come down in price.

Despite all the detractors I though FEAR and FarCry were both pretty good shooters. They have good, original stories and interesting levels. And again, (despite what some people said) some pretty intelligent enemies that will try to flank you and hide out until you pass by them.
Half-life 2 was similar. The designers focused more on story, interesting maps and a handful of intelligent, resourceful enemies rather than a shooting fest that lasts through tons of boring levels. Havent played HL: Episode 1 yet.

Didnt care to play anything else on your list, so I cant comment.

P.S.: Try to find the DVD editions of those games, if possible.
They make installation so much easier and they also make it easy to keep track of discs.

Quake 4 - played demo, wouldn't buy
Half-Life 2 - way overrated. game is mediocre at best
Half-Life 2: Episode One - never played it, see Half Life 2's reason.
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth - played it part way then had to reformat my pc and lost the save game. kinda slow, at least from the beginning to the part i got to. can be pretty hard.
Neverwinter Nights 2 - never played it. lots of bugs i hear
Oblivion - fun for about 2 weeks then gets boring as hell.
F.E.A.R - mediocre at best.
Company of Heroes - awesome RTS! can get pretty hard in later missions. i wish there were more infantry only type missions.
Medieval II: Total War - haven't played it
Battlefield 2142 - its made by EA and its part of the BF series, do you need any other reason not to buy it? played demo, sucks just worse than bf2.
Prey - played demo. didn't think it was anything special
Condemned: Criminal Origins - haven't played it. heard good reviews though.
Scarface: The World is Yours - haven't played it.
FarCry - another overrated game.

Get Oblivion on sale. It's a reaily in-depth experience, and worth $20-40 dollars. I paid $75 for mine at launch and I think I've gotten the $75 out of it.

Quake 4 - Alright, nothing really new, although I got bored of it after 20 minutes.
Half-Life 2 - Great game. Really loved this and would get this and eps. 1
Half-Life 2: Episode One
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth - ?
Neverwinter Nights 2 - ?
Oblivion - gets very repetitive. I keep saying I will play through on a new character, just never do however.

F.E.A.R - Trash, way over hyped. Graphics are pretty good, but nothing special. I had to force myself to finish this one.

Company of Heroes - heard way good thing, just havent tried it.
Medieval II: Total War - ?
Battlefield 2142 - Have BF2, hadnt played it in 6 months, recently installed it, and havent played it in the past 2 weeks. Just seems bland.

Prey - its OK, nothing too special. The gravity stuff it pretty cool, but other than that not much else.

Condemned: Criminal Origins - played about the first hour and a half of this. Really kind of liked, beautiful graphics, different sort of gameplay, and somewhat intriguing story.

Scarface: The World is Yours - will have to try this.
FarCry - beautiful game, played this on Xbox, loved it. Still have yet to play it on PC.

May I also suggest:

KOTOR 2
Counter Strike
GTR2 if your into racing
Unreal Tournament
I have heard some good things about the new Splinter Cell, although I havent played it myself
GRAW

I guess I'm one of the detractors because we have pretty much opposite views of these games. While not groundbreaking, I thought both Quake 4 and Prey were a lot of fun to actually play.

FarCry is highly overrated. Yeah, the jungle looks great, but what else is there? As much as people bash games like Halo for being repetative, FarCry is just as bad. The levels are like this: beach, jungle, jungle, jungle hut, jungle, jungle village, etc... The AI is fairly bad and often cheap and I saw no signs of enemies trying to hide from me. I may have seen some flanking a time or two, but for the most part the enemies just made a bee line straight for me.

As for FEAR, I still haven't gone all the way through, but what I have played is nothing special. It has some freaky moments, but you spend most of your time fighting the exact same type of soldier. The levels all look the same and are all warehouse and loading dock type areas. Again, I haven't made it all the way through, but the game simply hasn't given me any reason to... it's just your typical industrial looking PC shooter with some freaky girl thrown in.

Neverwinter Nights 2 - Great
Oblivion - Good, I wouldn't call it great but I think the amount of content you get makes up for it
F.E.A.R - Good
Company of Heroes - Great, excellent SP campaign
Medieval II: Total War - Don't own... yet
Battlefield 2142 - Don't own, but I hear the negative press it innitially recieved was greatly exagerated, the ad crap didn't end up being as big of a deal as was thought. But, at the same time, I think it came out too soon after BF2 which is still a plenty good game.
Prey - Good
Condemned: Criminal Origins - Good
Scarface: The World is Yours - Don't own
FarCry - Good

Without knowing anything about Scarface, I'd say everything on your list is a solid game worth owning.

KOTOR 2

Finished it last night - had a lot of fun. Now I need to go through and play the Dark Side.

The game does show that it's almost two years old - looks like they made some minor tweaks to the original KOTOR engine. Voice quality is good, battle is fun, the characters you team with have deep, fleshed out stories, and the plot sends you for a trip across the galaxy and back.

Quake 4 - Excellent, most horrific sequence(s) I've ever seen, but not very replayable.
Half-Life 2 - Finally played first time in summer, was very good, not great.
Half-Life 2: Episode One - See above add better graphics, good NPC. Too short $$$.
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth - ?
Neverwinter Nights 2 - ?
Oblivion - Amazing. Upgraded VC for this, absolutely beautiful. Hours played 192+.
F.E.A.R - Demo was good. Lame install (can only do properly with a C drive). Overall game was rinse and repeat, new enemies/guns not very interesting. Overhyped.
Company of Heroes - Excellent singleplayer, great story and combat system. Mutli stinks.
Medieval II: Total War - Just got it + Total War Eras. Still on this, awesome, super cool. My god those are pretty corpses; always fun to see the large heaps and reminesce on what you've done.
Battlefield 2142 - ?
Prey - Demo was ok, but it was WAY too classic shooter. Guns sucked. Abduction scene was very well done.
Condemned: Criminal Origins - ?
Scarface: The World is Yours - ?
FarCry - Played last year on ancient machine. Ok shooter, it's kinda big, nothing special.

Out of that list, I'd put Oblivion, Medieval II and Company of Heroes up top.

Quake 4 - Hated it, total yawnfest for me
Half-Life 2 - Not an 06 game, but one of my favourites of all time nonetheless
Half-Life 2: Episode One - have not played it yet
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth - never heard of it
Neverwinter Nights 2 - never played it
Oblivion - bored me to tears
F.E.A.R - OK at best, very disappointing to me
Company of Heroes - played the demo and enjoyed it, but not really my type of game
Medieval II: Total War - never played it
Battlefield 2142 - "beta-tested" it and it was total trash
Prey - played the demo and enjoyed it, may buy once it hits the bargain bin around here
Condemned: Criminal Origins - great game, too shrt, but great otherwise
Scarface: The World is Yours - never played it
FarCry - this game is well before 2006, but I still like it a lot

Wow, I did not like very many games from last year. Never realised it until now.

Best game I played in 2006 was Call of Duty 2, I really enjoyed that one.

Far Cry is actually a lot of fun if you play it more like a stealth game. What they really did well is the code that determines whether an enemy can see you or not. If you go prone in the grass they won't be able to see you until you get close, and if you run and hide after they've seen you, they don't automatically know where you are from then on. They go to your last known location and start searching for you from there.

I can't believe Hitman: Blood Money hasn't had a single mention in this thread so far. They took Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, improved the graphics to making it the best looking game out so far, improved the AI to giving it the best stealth AI out so far, took out all the filler/buffer levels, and made the remaining levels epic and original. Aside from a couple minor hiccups in Murder of Crows and ...Better Watch Out the game is perfect.

What else is there? Realistic combat, relatively non-linear gameplay, lots of tension because of the autosave system, long game length, and much more. Just as repetitive as Halo?

lol, not even close. Almost every island level is different from the other and never are the same exact islands copied and pasted. There's escape oriented ones focused on driving from hordes of mutants, there's tactical ones focused on taking out groups of enemies in short bunches, there's all-out massacre islands where everyone knows where you're at and you have to kill them all, there's slower paced sniping type islands... repetitive scenery, maybe. Repetitive gameplay, hell no. Not to mention that there are indoor levels as well, not just island levels.

The AI was excellent for the marines. They made cover behind trees and rocks (even if the trees were often too narrow to completely conceal them) when you were shooting them and flanked you when you were trying to get a better shot. Sure, the jumping mutant AI wasn't genius but why should it be? They're just dumb mutants.

That too. It's easily the best game to come out in 2004 and taking into consideration all games after Deus Ex, it's the second best, beaten only by Hitman: Blood Money.
